Meet Rhonda
Rhonda is so grateful for her husband Cliff. She’d be lost without him. He always knows just what to do. He’s misunderstood, not bossy. He tells her he has his drinking under control and she believes him. Or rather, she needs to believe him. Her world is too fragile without him at the center of it. She had always lived with her parents, feeling she was so hopeless at practical things. When they died she was absolutely desperate. Then Cliff came along, her knight in shining armor, and rescued him. She wouldn’t dream of disagreeing with him. She wouldn’t want to offend him or make him think she doesn’t appreciate everything he does. He handles all their bills and money, and if there are collection notices or calls, it’s not his fault. She lets him make all the decisions. With his practice in trouble, he’s under a lot of stress. She feels her role is to show as much love and devotion as she can. Because she’s scared he might abandon her and her son Terry. And then what would she do? What would become of them. Rhonda's struggle and her desparation at times is communicated further to viewers through the use of cinematic techniques, like flashbacks and reenactments. The viewer is invited to join Rhonda in her life, and to feel what she feels when confronted with conflict and struggle.
