Meet Malcolm
Malcolm, the son of a wealthy, widowed mother, just wants to be left alone. He is indifferent to other people. He doesn’t understand their emotional needs, particularly his mother, who he feels is needy, clingy and always making dramas. He is flat and affectless in his speech; a monotone. When his father died recently and his mother seemed inconsolable, he didn’t know what to say, or how to behave at the funeral. People’s expressions of sympathy were puzzling. He couldn’t wait to get back home to his room and video games, which absorb his attention. He has no friends. He dropped out of college. Sex or relationships don’t interest him. He finds his mother’s appeals to find a job hard to understand. She has enough money to take care of them. What is the point of him working? As far as he is concerned, he simply prefers his own company. He’s a loner by nature. His mother doubts the need for intervention with his condition. The video uses cinematic techniques to take viewers into the events of Malcolm's life and show how his symptoms impact his ability to live his life and connect with those around him.
